Machu Picchu is a global treasure. In 1981 it was declared a Peruvian Historical Sanctuary by the national government; and in recognition of its archaeological legacy and remarkable biological diversity, in 1983 it was declared by UNESCO both a Cultural and Natural World Heritage Site.
It has been described as "a masterpiece of architecture and a unique testimony to Inca civilization." In 2007, Machu Picchu was voted one of the New Seven Wonders of the World, and it has become a “must see” destination for travelers from all over the world.
Full day trip to Machu Picchu (from 5.00 am to 10.00 pm, approximately)
At 05.00 am you will be driven from your hotel to the station at Poroy, for the beautiful three-hour and thirty-minute train ride through typical Andean scenery to Machu Picchu. Your journey will take you through the Sacred Valley of the Incas and into the cloud forest ecosystem of the Urubamba Gorge to the small town of Aguas Calientes, following the course of the Urubamba River.
At around 11.00 am the train will arrive at Aguas Calientes, where your guide will meet you and escort you to the bus station. The drive to Machu Picchu takes less than 30 minutes. At the most famous site in South America, you will be escorted by your expert guide, who will explain the significance of this unique legacy of the great empire of the Incas.
In the late afternoon you will return to Cusco by train, and upon arrival in the city you will be escorted to your hotel.
